MOST IMPORTANT EVENT OF ALL
***** We take time this weekend to reflect on the most important event of all time .
No Dude , I am not talking about the Final Four . I am talking about the all time biggie , the resurrection of Jesus .
The fact of the Resurrection proves that Jesus was who he claimed to be . If the resurrection is not a fact ,then we have no hope & all is meaningless.
This is the only question of theology that matters . If the Resurrection is a fact ,all other questions fall into place . If there was no Resurrection ,then all the other stuff does not matter.
It makes no difference how many points of John Calvin you believe ,if there is no resurrection. The Resurrection : Yes or No . The answer decides it all .
Jesus left no doubt . At least six times Jesus made the challenge to the Hebrew leaders ." Kill me & I will rise in three days ". The Hebrews understood the game & careful bunch they were , made the tomb very secure. A large stone & an armed guard to prevent any tricks .
After a couple of thousand years ,the Hebrews still have no answer for what happened . Jesus rose . Jesus made good on his vow .
The wonder of the Resurrection is our guarantee that all of Jesus' promises are true . Praise the Lord !
2 Timothy 1:12 says " I know whom I have believed & am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day"
Was not the Resurrection of JESUS , the most important event in the world ?

TOURNAMENT TALK
***** Woo ! Baylor sure made me look bad. I said the Bears were not ready for the big stage . Baylor put a whupping on St. Mary's , then took Duke to the wire.The Bears were so muck quicker than Duke. I take it back Baylor . Way to go Bears
The Slow Devils used their size & good shooting to beat Baylor . Duke also did well rebounding . Defend & rebound will get you a long way in the Big Dance. This is the least athletic Duke team to reach the Final Four.Coach K is doing a good job of adjusting to his players abilities . Look for a real Snot - Knocker against WVA.
***** Tennessee should be in the Final Four . The Vols beat Ohio State ,& should have beat MSU. Scotty Hopson needs his butt kicked . He shot way too soon . Even if Scotty had made the basket the Spartans had plenty of time to win . Not smart. All said, Tennessee danced longer than they should have.
The Spartans are one ugly bunch . They are a Big Ten football team in short britches. Michigan State just hammers & hammers you till you colapse. They are always there . Give Izzo credit . Watch out Butler.
***** Yea ! Butler Bulldogs . Butler returns to their hometown to play in the Final Four . The Bulldogs are the Cinderella of the tournament . Butler's coach does not look old enough to drive & most of the Bulldogs don't appear to be shaving yet.
Butler is here because they play great defense . The Bulldog Jump & Switch defense has shut down everyone they have played . Will the Jump & Switch stop the stronger ,quicker Spartans ? We will find out Saturday .
***** I am not sorry Kentucky lost though I do like seeing Ashley Judd at the games . I don't think Cal does things the right way . No matter how many games & championships he wins , he will never get the stink off .
Kentucky had more talent than anyone in the tournament . It seemed like the Cats got every break & still couldn't win . Huggins out - coached Cal . Again ! Cal is not a good bench coach . If Cal was 10% the bench coach as he is a recruiter & salesman he would never lose a game .
John Wall is the fastest player end to end I have ever seen . But I think he gets away with charging 5 times a game .
Huggy did a great job . He had more impact than Cal . The 1-3-1 zone killed the Wildcats . Duke will do a better job against the zone than Kentucky .
Duke vs WVA will be a fantastic match-up . It should be a great Final Four . GO BUTLER GO !!!!!

TURN OUT THE LIGHTS, THE PARTY'S OVER
***** The clock struck 12 for three of four Cinderellas last night . Only # 5 Butler was able to keep on dancing .
Kentucky turned the lights out on the biggest Cinderella of all . The Cornell Big Red just could not hang with the Wildcats. Cal's bunch just had too much talent for the smart boys to overcome.
DeMarcus Cousins said it best . He said " We ain't out there reading books" & " This ain't no spelling bee". Who said Cousins isn't smart ?
Things seem to be lining up for Cal , Ashley Judd , & the Wildcats to win it all . Will Cal vacate again ? Time will tell .
WVA beat Washington . Huggy & the boys have Kentucky next . WVA seems to play mighty rough to me . I am not sure that is the best way to play the Cats . Huggins' Ace in the Hole could be his 1 - 3 - 1 zone defense. The zone will give Kentucky more trouble than rough play .
K - State outlasted Xavier . Next up is Butler .
Butler beat Syracuse . The Orange have not been playing full speed for a month . The Orange failure to go top end caught up with them against Butler.
***** Now halfway through this round we have a # 1 , a pair of # 2's & a #5 still playing .
Sounds like the music has stopped & the dance is over . Cinderella can catch the crosstown bus home .
Not so fast my friend . Two Cinderellas left to dance have a good shot. UNI can beat MSU. The Spartans have a key player out for the game. If UNI can survive the phyiscial play ,they will keep on dancing. UNI over MSU.
St. Mary's should get Baylor. Baylor never wins when it counts . The Bears don't have that great tradition to fall back on . Baylor does not know they are supposed to win . The Gaels should play like Gypsies ; loose & free ! Look for Baylor to stumble on the big stage .
The Duke Slow Devils will take care of Purdue . Duke could make a run for the roses . TheDevils are big & have lots of experience .
Sorry Tennessee fans , I don't think the Vols can beat the Buckeyes . The Vols have played over their head to get this far . Bruce Pearl does a good job but I don't feel good riding with J.P. Prince. I have been watching J. P. since 9th grade & he seems to crap out at the worst possible time.. The Buckeyes spend the most of any college on sports , maybe it is pay off time .

SHOOTING LOW
*** Tiger Troubles - The NCAA dropped the hammer on the Memphis Tigers. Memphis must vacate their Final Four of 2008 , take down their banner,& pay back their tournament revenues.
The pay - back will hurt the most . The University must give back 617,000 dollars. I bet they do not have the money . Dollars are in short supply at the University these days.
Here is an ideal . Cal's bonus was 370,000 dollars . Since the accomplishments were vacated, Cal should pay that money back . If I were the University I would not hold my breath waiting on Cal to send the check .
*** Cinderella won't dance - A Cinderella will not win this tournament . I don't think a true Cinderella has ever won . The last time a team from a non- power conference has won was UNLV in 1990. The Rebels were a high seed going in ,so they can't be Cinderella .
The lowest seed to win the tournament was # 8 Villanova in 1985 . The Wildcats did not come from the lower half of the bracket . Close but no cigar .
Cinderella will never get to dance . You have to win 6 straight in upsets. The odds are about .004 %. Never happen !
*** Bowl Game Bucks - 68 of the 120 D-1 teams go to a bowl game . Why ? The money ! Bowl games make money 3 ways
1. Ticket Sales
2. TV Revenues
3. Title Sponsorships
Best of all bowls are tax - exempt . That means you get to keep all you make . There are way too many bowls & look for more to come . Until the rules are changed & the cash stops flowing , look for the Money Grab to continue .

WHAT A SHOW
The NCAA tournament is great . Buzzer Beaters & Cinderellas galore . Can you believe some people want changes? It is fantastic just like it is.
*** Cinderellas - A Cinderella must not be a member of a power conference. A Cinderella must not be seeded in the top half of the field . A team that meets one of these standards is a soft Cinderella . A team that meets both standards is a hard Cinderella.
The Sweet 16 has 6 Cinderellas , 3 hard & 3 soft . The soft Cinderellas are Butler, Xavier , & Washington. The hard Cinderellas are UNI, St. Mary's & Cornell.
A Cinderella is not going to win this tournament . No Way No How! They are winners by getting this far . Do not be surprised if the clock strikes 12 on all the Cinderellas in the next game . Almost impossible for a Cinderella to make the Final Four.
*** Conference Scoreboard- Power conferences have 11 teams in the Sweet 16 . The breakdown is
Big-10 - 3
SEC - 2
Big - 12 - 2

*** The Outback Mate - Will St. Mary's bring about a rule change ? Only two Aussies on a team . They are fun to watch !
*** Biggest Cinderella - Cornell is the biggest underdog of all . The Big Red has Ashley Judd's Big Blue next . If Cornell comes through it would be one of the greatest upsets in history .
*** Kentucky - I think things are falling right for the Wildcats to win it all . Hope not but think so . Hate to see someone walking on the shady side win it all.

SAY WHAT ?
*** Long ago & far away ,I was the football coach at a small town powerhouse in East Tennessee. The coach before me was a legend in the area.
Coach King had coached the team more than 25 years & had won 2 State Championships. Coach King had stepped down due to health issues. He had a light heart attack & had to give up coaching.
The 2 or 3 times I left a job because of health reasons, it was cause everybody was sick of me .
The team was very good so we had a radio show that reached a large area. Not only did they broadcast the game but did an interview with the coach before & after the game .
Lynn & Buster were the radio hosts & Coach King would ask me questions after the game. As all of East Tennessee were on the edge of their seat listening to my spell -binding answer ,something happened.
Right in the middle of my answer , Coach King in his mountain twang screamed what sounded like "SHEET FAR"!
Lynn grabbed the mike & told the shocked listeners " Coach King has just been stung by a wasp".
Coach King said " The Esso Bee got me on the elbow" . How Coach King knew where that wasp gassed up was beyond me . Such words had not been spoken on the radio in 1976, not before our show anyway.
Now ,I knew there was a wasp nest in the press box but I didn't figure they would bother anybody . I never dreamed the wasp would attack Coach King like the Japs did Pearl Harbor .
Coach King recovered & is still doing okay today . Coach King & I were the same age when we had our heart attacks . I hope I have as many years post-heart -attack as Coach has .
Coach King taught me that players are most important . He used to say " It's not how you line up, It's who you line up."

I MISS YOU DAD
*** On March 18th 19 years ago ,my Dad passed away. I still miss him.
When Kris Kristofferson sang " He's a walking contradiction partly truth & partly fiction " ,he was talking about Daddy. Dad was a contradiction.
Start with his nickname Big Moose . That really didn't fit someone who stood 5'11" & weighed 145 . Moose was very strong in some ways & very weak in others .
Another contradiction was the lifestyle he lived . Most men in the community went to a job,punched the clock , & worked a day for a determined amount of pay.
Not Big Moose . Daddy was an entrepreneur or maybe he was into manure. Just some of the things the Moose dabbled in : chinchilla ranching, beekeeping, Quarter Horses, meatpacking, service station, battery shop , trucking business, produce sales & a junkyard.
Most of all Big Moose was a free market trader . He would wander all around the area buying & selling where ever he went .
Dad had a Gypsy style in that he traveled where ever he pleased & when ever . No schedule , no time clock , & no Boss. Dad sat on the veranda smoking & drinking coffee until he decided where & if he wanted to go . If the fish were biting then he went fishing . Quiting time was when Moose decided to come home .
Dad was the IRS worst enemy . He dealt only in cash. When he was dying he wanted to go over his finances with me . He wanted to tell me how much I should get for his stuff . I asked how could someone who had no real job accumulate this much stuff & money . Moose said " It's not hard when you don't pay any taxes."
Here is an example of a Moose deal . I came home one day & there were street lights stacked everywhere .
I said "what's with all these lights"
Dad said " City was replacing their streetlights so I bought the old ones "
I asked " What on earth for "
Dad said "son ,people in the country need these for nightlights .
Within 2 weeks the streetlights were gone & Moose had more than doubled his money .
One time dad bought some pigs for 250 dollars & paid the man 10 dollars to feed them till he sent for them . The next day Daddy sold the pigs for 400 dollars & told the buyer where to pick them up . Just another day in the adventures of Big Moose.
At our house Mama took care of the worry & Daddy took care of the dreams . I said I don't want to be like Dad . I want a real job & a salary .
After 32 years of answering the school bell I realized how smart Moose was .

TOURNAMENT TALK
***** SEC - The Mississippi State Bulldogs played so hard against Kentucky in the championship game. They should have made the Big Dance.
The Dawgs were out - numbered 1000 to one in crowd size. MSU was out-maned player wise. The Wildcats have four for sure NBA players while the Dawgs have one maybe.
If only MSU had not missed those foul shots at the end & Kentucky's hope shot had been a tenth of a second later . If ifs & buts were candy & nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas .
There are 10 to 15 teams with better players than Kentucky . They all play in the NBA.
I would love to go to a Kentucky game if I could sit next to that cute Ashley Judd . Wonder if Cal could hook me up ?

UAB was the biggest disappointment. Mike Davis is not getting it done for the Blazers. UAB should have won the conference ,UTEP second .
I love UTEP because they have some border girls for cheerleaders . If all the girls in El Paso are that pretty , Go West Young Man Go West !
***** TSSAA - When I was growing up in Gibson County only 3 things really mattered. They were Cardinal baseball , Tennessee football & high school Girls' basketball.
Gibson County just won their second consectutive state championship . G- County came from 19 down in the middle of the third quarter to win the crown .
Girls' basketball is big in Gibson County . The county has 5 high schools with number 6 opening this year. The 5 established schools have won 13 State Championships between them . Boys' basketball has won only one title county - wide . What is the difference ?
***** NCAA - March Madness is beginning this week . There are about 8 teams who could win the 6 in a row it takes to be Champ.
Thing is if you played the tournament 5 times one of these 8 would win but I am not sure any team would win twice . 5 times 5 winners.
That is what makes it great.

***** SEC - The Mississippi State Bulldogs played so hard against Kentucky in the championship game. They should have made the Big Dance.
The Dawgs were out - numbered 1000 to one in crowd size. MSU was out-maned player wise. The Wildcats have four for sure NBA players while the Dawgs have one maybe.
If only MSU had not missed those foul shots at the end & Kentucky's hope shot had been a tenth of a second later . If ifs & buts were candy & nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas .
There are 10 to 15 teams with better players than Kentucky . They all play in the NBA.
I would love to go to a Kentucky game if I could sit next to that cute Ashley Judd . Wonder if Cal could hook me up ?

*** Willie Herendon - Slick Willie is playing the Memphis Gay Community like a fiddle . For years Will has been singing Stand by Me with the Memphis Gay Community . They have been able to count on Herendon's support .
But now, after counting the votes , Willie has decided to throw the gay folks under the bus . Herendon is now standing with Pastors against same sex marriage . Sorry Folks, you don't carry enough votes for Willie to hang tough .
Don't feel alone, Willie also bailed on marijuana users. NO JOKE WILLIE IS AGAINST A TOKE !!
Will the Memphis Gay Community switch their support to Cohen ? Time will tell . I don't know who the tokers can count on .

RANTING & RAMBLING
*** We are warned in the book of Hebrews about drifting from the truth. I think the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka Kansas has been adrift .
They believe God is punishing America for tolerating homosexuals . Could be . I can't say.
Now here is where I lose connection . Westboro protests at the funerals of servicemen . It makes them no difference that the soldiers are not gay .
What follower of Jesus would want to bring more pain & sorrow on a family already suffering ? I fail to see their logic here .
I do not think this stunt would fly in Gibson County . In fact it would be downright dangerous.
Let me explain the Gibson County mentality. A few years ago reporters were asking townspeople as to the fate of a child raping murderer.
" Life without parole or the death penalty" the newsmen asked . The G-County boys said " We think they should let him go".
"Let him go ?" the reporter gasped . Yeah said the guys 'Just let us know about an hour before you turn him loose"
How do you think a Westboro protest would work in G - County ?
*** I was reading a news magazine that asked the question " Is Ahmadinejad crazy or does he just act crazy "?
Ahmadinejad is the President of Iran . He is always saying when he gets the bomb he is going to wipe Israel off the map .
I don't if the boy is crazy but he is definitely stupid. It is not smart to trash talk those Jews. They have been known to nuke first & question later.
In my younger days I was a master of the preemptive strike and so is Israel . If A-jad keeps talking trash look for the Hebrews to come out swinging.
A - jad could let his gator mouth overload his humming bird heiney . My Bible says the Lord will bless those who bless Israel & will curse those who curse Israel .

WHAT A QUESTION
*** I think it was 1982 , I was the manager of a Fireworks City tent in Horn Lake . A tent is only open for 10 to 14 days with about 80% of your sales occurring on 3 or 4 days.
The rest of the time the costumer traffic is slow & inconsistent .That is the way we were rolling when it happened .
There was a black girl about the age of 10 who came every day to buy fireworks . She never bought more than two to three dollars worth . She appeared to be a bit raggedy & I wondered where she was getting her money . I figured she was picking up coke bottles or something . The little girl came every day as regular as clockwork, & was in the tent when it happened .
A big brown brand new Cadillac pulled in . You could not help noticing the vanity plate on the front . The front plate was a picture of a hugh full bursting open cotton boll.
The well dressed lady who stepped out ,slipped on a pair of designer Ray - Bans . These dark glasses had a tiny cotton boll on the bottom of the left lens . This chick was obviously Big Money .
The lady cruised through the tent gathering up about 250 dollars worth of merchandise . She proceeded to the check out where there was a big sign saying NO CHECKS ACCEPTED .
The lady whipped out a ledger book of checks with a cotton boll emblazoned on each one & said to me " You will take a check."
I figured if any check is good surely this one is & we are talking about 250 dollars here . So I said yes & she began to write .
The little girl had been staring at the woman from the moment she entered the tent . With wonderment & amazement written all over her face the little girl asked " Can I ask you a question Miss?'
The woman looked down her nose & gave a curt nod of approval. The little girl asked " Why don't you wipe that bird mess off your glasses ?"
If looks could kill Desoto County would have had the body of a little black girl & a laughing tent manager to deal with .
That woman marched to her Caddy without a word , threw her fireworks in the back ,& slung gravel as she drove out .
The little girl asked me " What is wrong with her ?" I told the little girl " I think looking through bird mess will do that to you."

REUNION
*** I was really excited about attending a school reunion a while back . I wanted to see my old buds from long ago . Sad to say ,the night turned into a horror show .
First off, I had trouble finding the right room . I followed the directions & looked inside the room. I didn't see anyone I recognized, just a bunch of Senior citizens on a night out . I tried two other rooms but the same thing.
I returned to the first room where the young man making the name tags insured me I was in the right room . I got my name tag & went on in .
Once inside panic seized me . I did not know a single soul . Surely this was not the right group. Not this bunch of old codgers in life's final days .
Then I looked at the name tags . Many of the names I knew but not the person wearing the tag .
The sports stars didn't look they could run to the restroom without stopping to rest twice . Two of the boys voted Most Handsome looked old enough to have been with Noah when he landed the ark. The Most likely to Succeed looked like he fell out of a dumpster.
As bad as the guys were the girls were much worse. Too fat , too thin , hair either dyed or white . They looked my my Grandmother's friends who used to come over & play Rook . All they were missing was the snuff. It was Assisted Living Night Out.
Who were these people & what had they done with my friends ?
Not a single one knew me or was aware of all the wonderful things I had done .
Then it happened . This creature headed toward me . If this had been a costume party she would have been a bale of cotton splattered with mud . She had blue hair , had so many winkles you could call her raisin
,& was a few cheeseburgers light of 300 lbs .
I didn't recognize her but I did the name . She was the school Heart- Breaker, the Queen of many nights, & Miss Hot Stuff herself.
I didn't think she knew I had ever lived . Best I remember she would not have thrown water on me if I was on fire .
She walked up to me & screeched " I remember you from school but I can't remember what it was you taught "
I went ballistic. I tried to nail her with my best Tojo Yamamoto chop but those security guards carried me out before I could unleash it.
I am never going to a reunion again . Those OLD PEOPLE are crazy.

NO WAY OUT
Caught in a trap
Can't walk out
Elvis was not singing about the USA but he could have been . The USA is going bankrupt . We are caught in a financial trap with no way out.
Our nation can't pay the interest on the amount we owe. We can't fund Social Security & Medicare commitments for the future. But we keep spending trillions playing the world's policeman.
We owe more money than any nation on earth. If the lenders call the loans we can't pay .How did the most powerful nation in the world end up here? The all-powerful nation a beggar.
It's simple really. Our nation didn't learn you can't live beyond your means . Every family & business knows you can't run a deficit long. But the government does not know this.
Instead of reducing spending & balancing the budget , the government tries to borrow their way out of trouble. That dog won't hunt.
Nations get in financial trouble the same way individuals do . Wanting too much will do it every time . Not knowing when is enough .
America has seen this financial storm coming for a long time but chose to ignore the warnings . We just kept spending & spending ,just delaying the day of reckoning Now we are in deep Doo - Doo .
In a few months we will have a show of force with China over the world's oil reserves. It is hard to win a face off against someone you owe a few billion to.
What can we do ?
Bring our troops home & mind our business
Reduce government spending
Stop outsourcing jobs
Stop foreign ownership of American assets
If you do business in America you pay taxes in America
Stop providing benefits to non - citizens
How is that for a start ?

RICKY & ME
*** I go back a long long way with Rick Sullivan . Rick is a great coach with much success at Craigmont, Haywood County , & Fayette Academy .
Our path together is over 40 years long . I attended 2 colleges with Rick & did two tours of coaching duty with Rick . I learned a lot of basketball along the way .
Our first tour we didn't win more than 2 or 3 games . The next tour we didn't lose more than 2 or 3 games . It all balanced out .
We really grew up together as coaches. We both had wonderful wifes to keep us straight . Although Freda's job was much more easy than Chilli Pepper's.
I helped Rick get fired from one job & hired at the next one . We didn't get the ax for losing but being on the wrong side politically. After that experience we both had great success forcing the old principal to admit to a big mistake .
I don't believe either one of us ever lost to our old school . I know I took great joy in beating the snot out of them every time we played.
I also saved Rick from doing life without parole at state prison . We were playing Mitchell at the Mid - South Coliseum in front of 11,142 screaming fans.
With the score tied 44 - 44 with 20 seconds to play there was time out on the floor . Rick made his final defensive adjustment & asked if there was any question. One of our stars on defense asked " Coach can we stop &, eat on the way home ?" It was all I could do to keep Rick from choking her .
I don't think either one of us ever beat Voo - Doo man Lionel Jones .
Rick took the Haywood Tomkittens to the state tournament & I went along to watch . First game he draws Bradley County & Coach Smiddy who had won 1200 games . I asked Rick if that bothered him . He said "Smiddy won all those games 3 on 3 . 5 on 5 he hasn't won as many as I have " Then Rick beat the pants off Bradley County .
Next up was heavy favorite & eventual Champ MT. Juliet . Haywood played great but came up 12 short . As we left the Murphy Center I was laughing & singing . Rick asked " What are you so happy about " I told him " I made an investment in the game & had you plus 15."
Rick & Dr Wine came to visit me in the Hospital after my triple by- pass . The nurses came to tell us to quieten down 3 times but ended up staying & laughing at the stories.
I LOVE YOU BROTHER & IT WAS A GREAT RIDE !
