**** BRAD STEVENS IS LEAVING AN ELITE COLLEGE COACHING JOB FOR A REBUILDING NBA TEAM .
STEVENS IS LEAVING BUTLER FOR THE BOSTON CELTICS. BRAD IS WELL ESTABLISHED AT BUTLER . HE HAS BEEN TO TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES & IS AMERICA'S BEST LOVED UNDERDOG .
STEVENS WILL ALWAYS BE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN AT BUTLER & THE NATION'S CINDERELLA TEAM ALMOST EVERY YEAR .
BRAD IS THE BIG DAWG IN INDY SINCE PEYTON BOOKED FOR THE MOUNTAINS .
OH, BY THE WAY STEVENS MAKES 1.2 MILLION A YEAR AT BUTLER .
WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE A GIG LIKE THAT ? TO GO TO BOSTON WHERE THE CELTICS ARE PRETTY MUCH STARTING OVER .
STEVENS MUST KNOW THAT COACHING IN THE NBA IS MUCH DIFFERENT THAN COLLEGE .
YOU PLAY MORE THAN TWICE THE GAMES , HAVE A 24 SECOND CLOCK RATHER THAN 35 .
BUT THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS POWER . AT BUTLER STEVENS HAS THE POWER . BRAD IS THE BOSS . AT BOSTON THE PLAYERS HAVE THE POWER .
SEVERAL PLAYERS WILL MAKE MORE THAN BRAD WHO WILL KNOCK DOWN 3.7 MILLION A YEAR . IT IS TOUGH TO BE THE BOSS OF SOMEONE WHO IS PAID MORE THAN YOU .
IN THE NBA COACHES MAKE SUGGESTIONS NOT DECISIONS . THE STARS ARE GOING TO DO WHAT THEY PLEASE .
THE COACH VERY SELDOM WINS A POWER STRUGGLE WITH STAR PLAYERS . THAT INCLUDES PHIL JACKSON AND HIS ELEVEN RINGS . THE LAKERS DID NOT GIVE PHIL A THIRD RIDE BECAUSE KOBE WAS SICK OF PHIL .
IF THERE IS CONFLICT IN MIAMI BETWEEN LITTLE ERIC AND LBJ WHO HITS THE HIGHWAY ?
IT IS NOT LBJ .
WHY WOULD ANYONE PUT THEMSELVES IN THIS POSITION ? EGO ? YOU ARE THE COACH OF ONE OF THE MOST RENOWNED BASKETBALL TEAMS . MONEY ? 3.7 MILLION IS THREE TIMES WHAT STEVENS MADE AT BUTLER .
STILL ,YOU ARE IN A POSITION WHERE YOU HAVE GREAT RESPONSIBILITY AND VERY LITTLE AUTHORITY .
NOW , STEVENS IS NOT WORKING WITHOUT A NET HERE . BRAD KNOWS THAT IF THINGS GO IN THE TOILET AT BOSTON ,THERE WILL BE MANY COLLEGE PROGRAMS PLEADING FOR STEVENS .
MAYBE , BRAD FIGURES IT IS A NO LOSE DEAL .NOT REALLY ANY RISK AT ALL .
I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HIS THINKING .
THANKS FOR READING !!!!!
Dad,
ReplyDeleteOne thing you're not considering: Butler is moving from the Atlantic 10 to the Big East. Big difference just getting to the tourney when you're playing Georgetown, Marquette, Villanova and Xavier instead of VCU, Dayton, George Mason and George Washington. The four major BB programs in the Big East are perennial tourney attendees, whereas the four major programs in the A10 are all considered Cinderellas when they go to the Big Dance.
Like you've suggested, Brad is striking while the iron is hot, tripling his salary, leaving Butler in a way that he will always be celebrated (even if he does eventually go to another college team). If he'd left Butler for another college program, all the celebration would've turned to hatred (think LeBron and Cleveland). Might have worked out that way even if he'd stayed a few years and not met the lofty expectations he's set for Butler fans.
I think he sees the upside and just wants to try the NBA gig. The thing about the players, coaches and salaries is true in the NFL, but I know you'd have wanted to jump at an NFL gig if one had been available...
Love you,
Rhett
